Tackling Loneliness

Gateshead Older People's Assembly

Gateshead Older People's Assembly is a charity for over 50s, existing to improve the health and maintain the independence of their members.

The charity has been set up to support over 50s both mentally and physically through socialising, exercising and learning.

"Laughing, talking, good food, exercise and having good friends is a form of medicine, so the Older People's Assembly is a big medicine"

The People's Assembly is there for anyone who may be feeling lonely or may have even recently lost people who they were close to.

Age UK Gateshead Social Groups

Age UK provides different Social Groups for the older people of Gateshead who may be feeling lonely or isolated.

The 'Ladies Day' and 'Men's Group' offer the chance for people who are feeling lonely to get out and visit venues around Gateshead and a little further afield. This may involve having really great pub food with new friends or taking part in a yoga/pilates class.

Tackling Loneliness
Lift someone out of loneliness

Better Health: Every Mind Matters

Feeling lonely is something that all of us can experience at any point and it can have a huge impact on our wellbeing.

It’s important to remember that these feelings can pass and that there are lots of ways we can help each other too.

Fancy a cuppa? Fancy a walk? Sometimes reaching out to each other with as little as three words can make a big difference.

As part of the Better Health: Every Mind Matters campaign, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport are encouraging people to ‘Lift Someone Out of Loneliness’ by taking a simple action to help someone who may be feeling lonely. If we do this regularly, we can all help to lift each other up.
